We are proud to announce that okoHaus founder John Lewis has become a certified Passive House Tradesperson with specialisation in Building Envelope. Everyone here is more than thrilled with John’s accomplishment and what it means for the future of not only the organisation but also the community as a whole.

What is Passive House?

Passive House (or Passivehaus, originally) is a rigorous standard for energy efficiency in building aimed at creating ultra-low energy buildings with minimal heating and cooling. The Passive House concept is the only internationally recognised, performance-based energy standard in construction.

The standards set by the Passive House Institute (PHI) ensure an eco-friendly and sustainable community where buildings can enjoy outstanding indoor comfort and air quality while helping to protect and sustain the outdoor environment.

What does it mean to be a Certified Passive House Tradesperson?

The Passive House Tradesperson certification is given when the Passive House Institute (PHI) recognises that the holder possesses the necessary knowledge and ability to implement the Passive House standards of maintaining energy efficiency and high performance in buildings.

The certification is only awarded to those who can take on the rigorous training program and pass the required exam, which John has done with flying colours through his training with Coaction Training CIC. John has demonstrated a full understanding of the know-how of building healthy, sustainable, and efficient buildings. This understanding, coupled with years in the window and door business, has provided John with the necessary skills to maximise energy efficiency and comfort in building and apply them with precision.

What are the Passive House Standards?

The Passive House Institute has defined five core principles for building more efficiently and more sustainably:

  • High-quality insulation

  • Airtight construction

  • High-performance glazing

  • Thermal-bridge-free detailing

  • Heat recovery ventilation

By specialising in Building Envelope, John Lewis is now a master at creating insulated, airtight structures that stand the test of time. Other areas of expertise proven by the Building Envelope tradesperson certificate include airtightness, thermal-bridge-free detailing, Passive House retrofits, super-insulated constructions, and optimal comfort.

What this means for okoHaus

Not only is this certificate a testament to John Lewis’ dedication to sustainability and growth, but it also reinforces okoHaus’ commitment to a better, healthier future for our projects and clients. We are dedicated to achieving all that is possible to better our environment and the comfort of our clients.

John will now display the Tradesperson seal with pride, with his name featured on the list of Certified Passive House Tradespersons visible on the Passive House Institute trade directory.

Once again, congratulations to John Lewis – your pursuit in pushing the boundaries of sustainable, eco-friendly construction inspires all of us to maximise our efforts for the betterment of our community.
